May 28th, 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM
This field training is hosted by the local WAV Coordinator, Megan Hogfeldt, with the City of Superior.
Join us for a Faxon Creek Macroinvertebrate Field Day!
*This event has a registration limit of 20 people and is recommended for participants aged 10 and older. The training is open to everyone – you do not have to be an active WAV stream volunteer to attend. Please note that this training is not designed to prepare you to become a WAV volunteer.
During the event, learn from local expert, Dr. Kurt Schmude about the macroinvertebrates that live in Faxon Creek, which flows through Superior, Wisconsin. Megan Hogfeldt, the City of Superior Water Resources Specialist and local WAV Coordinator, will provide information about the stream history.
Following Dr. Schmude’s discussion, UW-Madison Extension WAV staff Katy Bradford and Emily Heald will provide a hands-on training in Faxon Creek using the WAV biotic index method. Participants will help collect bugs from the stream and bring them to shore to identify the animals and calculate a biotic index rating to assess the health of the stream.
