June 28th, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM
This aquatic invasive species training is hosted by Upper Sugar River Watershed Association.
Join us for a hands-on training focused on monitoring aquatic invasive species in the Baraboo River and other local rivers and streams. No experience is needed, just a love for nature and a desire to make a difference. Whether you’re wading in or helping from the shore, there’s a role for everyone.
The Friends of the Baraboo River; Sauk County Land, Resources, and Environment; and Upper Sugar River Watershed Association are partnering up to host a training day focused on identifying key Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) and educating participants on how to report findings using Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) tools. The day will have two parts: a training in the morning, followed by hands-on monitoring in or near the water. Our training component will identify species of concern in the Sugar River watershed and go over the basics of species identification. We will then learn about field monitoring protocols and reporting procedures. The hands-on monitoring section will be a chance for attendees to practice monitoring techniques in or near the water. It is not limited to any specific waterbody or method of monitoring, making it broadly applicable for all types of folks interested in protecting their waterways.
Attend a free aquatic invasive species detector training and learn how to:
- Identify aquatic invasive species important to this region of Wisconsin
- Monitor for aquatic invasive species
- Collect and report findings
