Description

Paul Skawinski and Patrick Goggin will share attributes of intact, healthy shorelines along lakes and rivers and describe the gifts and ecological services they bring to Wisconsin waters. They will discuss the many challenges associated with unsound development along waterways and provide gardening ideas for water quality improvement, property stabilization, and wildlife habitat enhancement. 

Speaker Bios

Patrick Goggin works with the Extension Lakes team and is based out of the Rhinelander DNR Service Center. He helps lake organizations with their community goals, shares lake management tools and resources for aquatic ecosystems, and aids people in gaining a better understanding and appreciation for the native flora of Wisconsin lakeshores.

Paul Skawinski is a Lakes Outreach Specialist with Extension Lakes and Statewide Coordinator of the Wisconsin Citizen Lake Monitoring Network. He teaches Aquatic Plant Taxonomy at UW-Stevens Point, is the author of Aquatic Plants of the Upper Midwest, and is an avid native plant gardener. Paul is also Past-President of the Central Wisconsin chapter of Wild Ones, a volunteer organization dedicated to the use of native plants in landscaping.
